Trump, terror and DACA upheaval force schools to rethink study abroad

Genesis Garcia had just finished volunteering at a house in Mexico City that serves refugees — preparing for a research project on Central American migrants — when the University of California’s study abroad office called to tell her she needed to make a quick decision: return to the United States immediately or risk not being able to get back into the country again.

The UC Berkeley sociology student was about to get a lesson in just how unpredictable it is to study abroad in the Trump era.
