Triple-fatal Alameda crash: Suspect to be arraigned for vehicular manslaughter

ALAMEDA — A man who allegedly drove nearly 80 mph while drunk, causing a crash that killed three teens on Memorial Day weekend, is expected to be arraigned Monday on vehicular manslaughter charges, according to the district attorney’s office.

Jaime Africano, 19, of San Leandro, was reportedly driving nearly three times the speed limit in a downtown 25 mph zone, on Park Street and Lincoln Avenue May 29 when he ran a red light, crashing into a minivan. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 percent, twice the legal limit of .08, according to court documents.
