Child shot in East Oakland, police say



OAKLAND — A young child was shot in East Oakland on Wednesday night, authorities said.

At 8:55 p.m., officers responded to reports of the shooting in the 6500 block of Simson Street in the city’s Millsmont neighborhood, Oakland police Officer Gustavo Plasencia said.

Officers learned the child had suffered one shot in the forearm, and was driven to Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and listed in stable condition, Plasencia said.

No information about the shooting or circumstances leading up to it were immediately available late Wednesday.
